Lori L. Sonnenberg, M.M. (voice), M.A., CCC-SLP
Lori
L. Sonnenberg is a Speech-Language Pathologist and Singing
Voice Specialist. In her work she combines a passion for treating
injured voices with extensive experience as a singer and voice
teacher.
A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Ms. Sonnenberg is a lyric-coloratura
soprano. She earned a B.M. in Vocal Performance from Centenary
College of Louisiana, cum laude, an M.M. in Vocal Performance
and Pedagogy from Pennsylvania State University, and an M.A.
in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of North
Carolina, Greensboro.
Ms. Sonnenberg’s professional performance experience
includes solo performances with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra
as well as other regional orchestras. She was a seven-time
first-place winner in the Southern Region National Association
of Singing (NATS) Competition and a finalist in the Eastern
Region NATSAA auditions in March 2000. She won the Philharmonic
Concerto Competition at both Penn State (1998) and Centenary
College (1996). Her opera credits include Gretel in Humperdinck’s
Hansel und Gretel, Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro,
Miss Pinkerton in Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief,
and Dido in the 1999 world premiere of Bruce Trinkley’s
The Golden Apple at the National Opera Association Convention.
Recent performances include soprano soloist for John Rutter’s
Magnificat.
As a speech pathologist, Ms. Sonnenberg devotes her time
exclusively to the evaluation and treatment of voice disorders,
including not only a large caseload of singers and other voice
professionals, but also neurological, degenerative and non-organic
voice disorders.
Ms. Sonnenberg’s current research interest is to compare
the voice-related quality of life of voice patients before
and after treatment, specifically singers who have undergone
vocal fold microsurgery for otherwise irreversible lesions.
Ms. Sonnenberg is a member of the American Speech and Hearing
Association (ASHA) holding the Certificate of Clinical Competency
(CCC-SLP). She is also a member of the National Association
of Teachers of Singing (NATS), the Chicago NATS Chapter, and
is serving her second term as Vice-President of the Chicago
Singing Teachers’ Guild (CSTG).
