Brent E. Richardson,
M.D.
Dr.
Richardson is a Board Certified Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose,
and Throat physician) with a specialty in Laryngology. After
finishing his training in Otolaryngology, he completed a year-long
fellowship with Dr. Bastian at Loyola University Medical Center
in Maywood, Illinois, in 1996. Because of Dr. Richardson’s
training, experience, and recognized abilities as a Laryngologist,
Dr. Bastian invited him to join him as a colleague at Loyola
University, and later to become a part of Bastian Voice Institute
from BVI’s inception.
Dr. Richardson graduated from the University of Washington
School of Medicine in Seattle. He then served two years of
general surgery training at Hennepin County Medical Center
in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology
at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
Experiences as a singer in boy choirs, select collegiate ensembles,
and musical theater (as both a singer and an actor) sparked
Dr. Richardson’s interests in the unique problems affecting
professional voice users. He understands firsthand the needs
of performers, and continues to be active in musical and theatrical
productions. His personal interest in voice serves him well
in his treatment of diverse voice and swallowing disorders,
whether they be vocal fold injuries or cancer, neurological,
or non-organic in nature.
Dr. Richardson has taught courses at the national level for
the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck
Surgery on the topics of airway scarring and swallowing disorders.
He moderated a panel discussion of the renowned office-based
videoendoscopic techniques pioneered by Dr. Bastian and practiced
at Bastian Voice Institute. Dr. Richardson also lectures on
voice disorders for the Osler Institute Otolaryngology board
review course and speaks on vocal health and injury prevention
to performers.
