W. Nathan Waller, M.M. (voice), M.A., CCC-SLP
Nathan Waller is a Speech-Language (voice) Pathologist and Singing Voice Specialist. His work is facilitated by his background as a highly-trained, experienced singer. Mr. Waller, a bass-baritone, is a native of Burlington, N.C. He has a Bachelor’s of Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, cum laude, and an M.M. in Vocal Performance from Appalachian State University. Professional experience includes teaching choral music in the public school setting in which his choirs consistently earned superior ratings. He has taught privately and has performed in both opera and professional choral organizations, including the Long Leaf Opera Company of Durham, N.C. and the Bel Canto Company of Greensboro, N.C. Opera credits include King Alonzo in Hoiby’s The Tempest, Papageno in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Guglielmo in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, and David in Barber’s A Hand of Bridge.
His M.A. in speech-language pathology was earned at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. During his program of study, he completed internships in voice centers at Wake Forest University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
As a speech pathologist/voice specialist, Mr. Waller works almost entirely in the evaluation and treatment of voice disorders, including not only singers and other voice professionals, but also a large caseload of neurological, degenerative, and non-organic voice disorders.
Mr. Waller has completed research on vocal parameters of the adolescent speaking voice as well as muscular tension in various styles of singing. In graduate school, he completed a thesis titled, “A Voice Profile of the Adolescent Speaking and Singing Voice.”
Mr. Waller is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). He is also a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
